I’m flying out of London this summer, and I have the option of taking a flight out of Luton Airport or Gatwick Airport (same price, the Luton flight leaves a little earlier.)
I’m going to be staying in the center of London with no form of transportation other than the public transit. Which airport would be easiest for me to use?

  1. I would say that Gatwick would be the easiest to get to on public transport although it will be busier and more hectic than Luton when you get there!

  2. Gatwick is much better served by public transport. Regular trains to Gatwick leave London Victoria train station throughout the day 7 days a week.

  3. The train is the best option to reach these airports; roads are too congested. For Luton Airport Parkway Station then shuttle bus into the airport First Capital Connect trains run from London Bridge (45 minutes) or London St Pancras (30 minutes) every 15 minutes. For Gatwick Airport which has a station inside the airport Gatwick Express trains run from Victoria Station every 15 minutes and take 30 minutes for the journey. Southern Trains (lower fares) run from Victoria every 15 minutes and take 33 to 38 minutes, and First Capital Connect Trains run from London Bridge every 15 minutes and take 30-35 minutes. Which airport you use will probably be dictated by the availability of flights and cheap fares to your destination. Worth knowing that Ryan Air charges for checked baggage and often flies to small airports many miles from the destination city.

  4. Gatwick has special, new, non stop trains which run at highly regular intervals. Luton has a converted cattle truck that stops at every third lamppost.

  5. Gatwick, would definately be the better airport to fly out of. Firstly the transport connections are much better with the High Speed Gatwick Express train leaving London Victoria every 15 minutes, only taking 30 minutes. Also the fact it is operated by BAA it will have better facilitites but, will be more busy. Then again Luton is harder to get to due to limited public transport options but, It will provide a more stress free experience since, it not so busy because it is not a major UK hub. Personally I would advise Gatwick but, it is primarily your choice.

  6. I would say Gatwick in terms of the transport links, though there are trains to Luton also.
Once at Gatwick there is so much more to do and see while you wait for your flight.
    You travelling anywhere nice??
